9 Students Intern at Ring of Hope's Inaugural Boxing Fundraiser Show

On May 31st, Ring of Hope held its inaugural boxing fundraiser show, "Championing Dreams," at Baychester Middle School. Sanctioned by USA Boxing, this end-of-year showcase celebrated the culmination of our 20-week boxing and entrepreneurship program at Baychester Middle School.

The event also aimed to raise funds for our Sports Assistance Fund Program (SAFP), which supports athletes with tournament training and equipment expenses. Notably, our SAFP funded Stacia Suttles' trip to the New Mexico Nationals, and she is now a 2024 Olympic alternate.

Student Involvement and Media Training

A unique feature of the event was the integration of media training for both the athletes and the students. The students of Baychester Middle School, who had been part of our boxing and entrepreneurship program, took on roles as sports photographers, commentators, journalists, and reporters. This hands-on experience allowed them to showcase the skills they had developed in the program.

Fighters also benefited from this media training. They participated in interviews conducted by our student reporter interns, providing them with valuable experience in handling media interactions—a crucial skill in their athletic careers, which is not commonly offered in amateur boxing compared to professional levels. This media exposure not only boosted their confidence but also expanded their visibility and impact within the boxing community.

Parents of the fighters were engaged and proud to see their children participate in these interviews, as it highlighted their growth and development both inside and outside the ring.

The event also featured raffles and a poster station where students who excelled in our sports apparel design workshops created custom fan posters to cheer on the fighters. Prior to the event, these student designers also assisted with creating posters, boxing short designs, and most of the visual elements for the event.

Special Guests and Acknowledgements

We were honored to have special guests including key figures from Project PIVOT, Renny, and Donshea Hopkins, as well as the principal of Baychester Middle School. The event announcer was Jeffrey Blue from Overtime Boxing, and Raquel Harris, our CEO and Program Director, opened the event.
